What are "galvanized" seed beads?

Galvanized glass seed beads have a metal plating on the surface of the bead. A heavier coating will yield a more opaque and shiney metallic appearance. A lighter coating will yield a more transparent metal glow. Galvanized beads in general will make a project take on a more Gold or Silver Metal look but have some issues with durability depending on amount and type of use. For this reason, some beaders coat their pieces after they're assembled with common sealers or waxes.
